Hi guys. Just so you all know, based on some feedback I've been getting from various authors currently involved in the SlamJam, it seems everyone could use just a bit more time to get all of their entries in order. This being the case, I'm giving everyone a two day extension so everyone can finish touching up their entries (for anyone who's already submitted an entry, feel free to continue editing or revising or whatever).
Entries expected now on Thursday at 11:59PM CST.
*Squee* I'm so excited! I"ll probably lose in the very first round, but it's all for fun anyway. I entered a while ago, but I've waited until now to tell you in case I failed to complete my entry and stuff.
Voting begins today! Unfortunately, I can't tell you which one is mine.
Now, let's all watch me lose.
Hey guys. I'm kind of tired right now. I don't quite have the energy to recraft all the details of the SlamJam, so you can just check out the Round 2 announcement if you need to remind yourself of anything important.
BUT THAT'S NOT TO SAY THE HYPE TRAIN NEED SLOW DOWN.
Third Round, Bracket One
Third Round, Bracket Two
I can finally reveal what I was up to these past twelve weeks that took all my available writing time. I took part in Obsolescence's (i.e. he moderated the contest) OC Slamjam Competition (click this link to get to the stories). In this contest, writers were asked to submit an Original Character Profile, and then the participants were paired off to each anonymously write a story
For those not in the know, I competed in the OC Slamjam contest while it was running, for which I created a character called Redwood. I was in the contest for two rounds, winning one legitimate victory and one default, until I failed to submit a story in time for the third
It's official: the Slamjam is over! Mango Leaf, written by Wanderer D, was our winner, and we've all had a fun time getting to know these characters. I, of course, kept a running review document as the contest went on, and that's what you're getting now! I'm going to assume you know what the purpose of the contest was already. If you want to meet the characters or refresh yourself on who they were, go
Much of my writing output this year has not even been under my usual Dafaddah identity. The reason for this was my participation in Obsolescence's OC Slamjam contest, which was a massive undertaking consuming over three months of constant toil under conditions of anonymity. My efforts were rewarded nevertheless as I ended up taking second place!
Howdy, y'all.
Man, is this seriously the first blog post I've made in 2016. That's kind of a depressing thought. This year has been pretty hectic for me, but I should certainly be more active than that. Sorry, folks.
Behold! Following an apparent rule change, I was able to finally publish the two stories I wrote for the OC Slamjam starring the character of Agent Redwood. You may remember that I blogged previously about their removal, but they're back now. The one real stipulation was that they had to be compiled as one story rather than separate ones, so you can now find
My intention in participating in the OC Slamjam contest was to develop a multi-chapter story loosely based on the life of Steve Jobs and equating the Personal Computer revolution (which I experienced very personally in the eighties and nineties) with the Personal Spell Caster revolution championed by my protagonist OC, Firefly. In fact, I chose his name very deliberately, (though some participants in the OC Slamjam complained pretty loudly about it!)
I've gotten a lot of dramatic readings before (most of them for Rest in Chaos), but receiving or finding a new one always makes my day when it happens, especially if its for one of my more overlooked stories like Agent Redwood.
So Hurricane Dorian as of now is baring upon my location, having built up to the strongest possible category a storm can become. Suffice to say, my mind has been focused on many things, most of them not being writing.
"Wow, how convenient! So she's totally my foal, but just so happens to have had any physical identifiers that would confirm her as such removed! So, entertaining this stupid line of thought, why would you have done such a thing?"
Dragonfall
Chapter 10: Papa Agony
Next chapter will be a short one, but shorter means more expedient updates sometimes. Expect it sometime tomorrow.
"I knew a filly in my youth, who stayed at the local hospital in my hometown for all the time that I lived there. She was a blind-deaf burn victim with fragile bones that constantly broke, and an inability to digest solid foods. Healing magic gave her seizures, and she was somehow allergic to literally all medicine, but painkillers most especially. All she did, all day every day, was repeatedly chant 'please kill me,' and all night every night, she would have the same persistent
I'll let the big-name people do the actual analyses of this episode. I'll just point things out and hope I get some discussion. It was fun for Griffonstone, hopefully it will be fun here, too.
Like world-building, for example. Not only did Griffons get another drop in the bucket for Best Species with their awesome tiger-striped and hawk-beaked delegate:
But we saw more pony designs, like this mare:
Hey guys, Dubs here. I've got a new story out—or, really, more like a collection of stories. The Life and Times of Loud Mouth. Read on for more info.
